PRIOR NOTICE is a notification to the FDA that a product is being imported or offered for import into the United States, in advance of its arrival at a U.S. port or airport.
Advance notice of import shipments allows FDA, with the support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), to target inspections more effectively.
Avoid the detention of your cargo by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on behalf of the FDA.
FDA REGISTRATION NUMBERS are required to file a Prior Notice. There are few exceptions for importers.
ITB HOLDINGS LLC can assist, including in case of an emergency.
Prior Notice data must be electronically submitted and confirmation issued by the FDA before the shipment arrives in the United States.
So, before you drop your package or cargo to a FedEx, UPS or DHL facility, get your Prior Notice, first.
- Truck, pedestrian or car: 2 hours before arrival
- Air or rail: 4 hours before arrival
- Vessel: 8 hours before arrival
However, we do not recommend waiting until the last minute to file a Prior Notice. Also, failure to file a Prior Notice will result in the detention of your shipment by the U.S. Customs and the U.S. FDA.
The foreign exporter is expected to be the U.S. Importer of Record (IOR), not the Amazon warehouse. Therefore, obtain a U.S. Customs Assigned Number required to process customs clearance in the United States.
